General Motors EV1

General Motors EV1 is the world’s first electric car which runs purely on the battery power and there is no need of buying petrol or diesel whatsoever. This is a product of General Motors which is located in the United States. GM had taken the first step in this regard and they would be always honoured for such a remarkable achievement.

The EV1 was first launched in 1996. And it was available only in the US. Not just that, these cars were available for lease and it was for a maximum of 3 years duration. But the bad news is that, they had to stop the production of the cars in the year 2003 and this led to many controversies as well. From then on, there were no electric cars of GM on the roads and every single one were washed off. And these cars were only from then on to keep in museums and also for educational purposes, which is really good thing.

Well, EV1 was never for sale to the public and it was only given for lease for a certain duration and after which they had to return the same to the company. The 1997 model EV1 was with lead acid batteries. And in 1999, they came with a new model of EV1 and it was with nickel metal hydride battery. But, only 200 units were produced at this time. This makes their intentions clear that they were not trying to market it for making money. But GM was just trying to make it a success by learning and experimenting more and more with the car by releasing just a few units.

So basically, just two EV1 models were released and they are the generation 1 Ev1 and generation 2 Ev1.
